Hello everyone - My first time on this forum. Thank you in advance for any help.

I recently found out that I was moving out of my apartment and into another. My lease ends October 1st, 2010 but 60 days notice was required that we would be leaving. According to my lease, if I do not give 60s days notice it automatically renews itself. Unfortunately I only gave 6 weeks notice.

Today I received a letter from the landlord stating that I owe them $1000 and forefit my security deposit in order to leave on my scheduled October 1st move out day. That or I can find a new tenant and still forefit my security deposit. The kicker of the whole thing is that this $1000 payment (equivalent of 2 months rent) is due in just SIX DAYS, on September 1, 2010. ONE MONTH before my lease ends!

This new form they sent me w/ move out options is not covered in the lease. I have NO PLANS to sign it at this time. It asks for a signature and the immediate payment.

Is there anything I can do to get out of this? I just want to leave on October 1st, which is the last day of my lease.

I read that Ohio law states that 30 days notice is sufficient but me lease definitely says 60 days (which I apparently initialed next to). Can they hold me to this?

I'm a little frantic as there is NO EXTRA money right now and I definitely can't afford this little hiccup.

Thanks!

I just bought a duplex and i live in the first floor my tenant lives in the other. I am getting repairs(flooring, cabinetry, painting, wall, plumbing) to just my place right now. My uncle does my taxes and he said he will only give back 50% of the common repair bills. What are the correct rules/laws?
