We were out a couple days ago and upon return, we found one of the windows broken in the house that we rent. We asked the owner to repair, but he says that we are responsible for the repair. What do you think?

In Ohio, it depends upon whether a court would conclude that the tenant or some other person did the damage. If most of the broken glass is on the inside of the house, then this would imply that the window was broken from the outside, perhaps by persons unknown. But if the glass is on the outside of the house, then it might look to the court like someone inside the house broke the glass, most likely a tenant.
In any case, Ohio Revised Code Section 5321.05 describes the duties that the tenant owes the landlord, and all it says is that the tenant shall not negligently damage the premises. Thus if you can show a court that it was some other person who did the damage, then it will be the landlord's duty to fix the window.
Going to court over a broken window is a bit excessive though.
