We have had many problems with the townhome we are renting, but the latest problem has been the new neighbors. Since they moved in, OUR home has begun to smell very foul. They are smokers and over the past three months, each level of my home has systematically begun to smell so bad that I am constantly burning oils and candles. As well, we are now getting major "wiffs" of a ripe garbage smell!! I mentioned this to the rental office when I paid my rent, but they dont seem to care. The maintenance man told me they had this problem with another tennant and they had to say something to them. My problem is that this neighbor is a neice of the new property owner.

The new owners also fail to make repairs. My foyer flooded a few weeks back when a rain storm came through. The water flooded under the front door where the weather stripping was faulty. I put a work order in but they never fixed it. My fiance actually had to go to Home Depot and but new weather stripping and install it.

Sounds like you need to keep written records of what is happening as well as notify the landlord in writing of all the problems on a regular basis. If you want to break the lease later, your written notices will go a long way especially if the landlord fails to do anything in response.
