My ex landlord is refusing to return my security deposit of $500 based on the fact that she is missing five lightbulbs in the house and fixing a doorknob in one of the bedrooms. I have given her the okay to deduct the final electric bill from the security deposit, offered to buy bulbs, and told her to deduct the cost of the knob. I am now getting the run around because she keeps finding small things she wants to deduct. I have digital pictures showing the house when we moved out and it was clean and not damaged except as stated above. We were scheduled for a walk through with them this next day, but when we showed up, they didnt show and a for rent sign was already in the yard. I moved on the fourteenth of October and rent was paid until 11/1/06. I know Kentucky law says she has to maintain seperate accounts for security deposits, but I dont think she has done this. I am probably going to have to file action against her in court, but want to know if it is going to be worth the time and money. After the deduction of the electric, total return should be around $250-300. Can I sue her for more based on fact the reason we terminated lease was for her always wanting entry to the home, her 10 year old daughter walking in without knocking, and just repeated harrasment on her part. What do you think? FOOTNOTE: I have now received a call and she wants to charge me for the Molly Maids she brought in and her new husband has informed me that I am not to have any contact with them and they will settle on their terms in their own time???

Your former landlord is making up these excuses because she doesn't have the money to pay you your security deposit.

Take her to court -
