I have a unique situation in which I have occupied a rental property before, during and after a lengthy sale/closing process. My landlord under which I had my rental contract, ceased communication. I believe because she assumed the property was going to close much faster than it did. For six months (ironically this was during the cold months of an Ohio winter in which it was much to her advantage to keep someone in the unit, especially since she had moved out of state) there was absolutely no communication, even after I sent no rent without knowing my future. Days before the property finally closed she began to demand the full amount of back rent for 6 months. I do not dispute that there is some monies owed but does a landlord have a responsibility for more timely communication?

What communications are you seeking a response to?

I think most landlords would rather not bother tennants as long as rent was piad. I never call my tennenats unless there is a problem or I am returning their call. After all I feel a tennat wants there peace of mind and not hassled and I wish the same call me if something breaks or you are late on rent is all i ask. So I want to know did you try to contact this land lord? If so was you ignored? Did she try to return your call and get an answering machine and you never timely responded?
All I can say is if you owe and you know you owe, then pay up or get going.
