I own only one property - a two-family home - where the upstairs unit is considered rental property. I have been told that, since I own less than 3 properties according to federal law, that I can refuse children. I have had two families in the past couple of years and the children have not only caused considerable damage but also made noise which is unbearable to the parties who live downstairs. I know that one cannot advertise "no children" but is there, in fact, such a law which says I do not have to accept children?

Ohio law makes it illegal to discriminate against a renter based upon familial status, so you would be wise not to have that form a part of your decision in selecting a tenant.
