In Ohio, the landlord has 30 days from the date your lease is up and he gets back possession of the apartment to return your deposit or an itemized listing of damages.

eric if my lease was up on the 25th of july but i had vacated and turned in the keys on the 17th of july, i also have a work order from them for repairs dated july 19th when would i expect to get my deposit. i received it on the 26th of aug. however upon getting my deposit now i'm trying to find out exactly what i'm paying for. I droped off a note in person and asked for a detailed list of parts and labor and basicly got a letter saying that i owe them 62 cents? and no description, what now i plan to go back today as when i called the person i needed to speak with was not in, funny

In Ohio, if the lease ended on July 25, 2005, then the landlord must get the itemized list to you within 30 days. There is a case out there which says that so long at the itemization is mailed within 30 days, the fact that it gets to you a few days after that is not a violation.
But from what you are saying, you have issues with the propriety of some of the charges against you. If you can show an Ohio court that you gave written notice and that some of the charges listed are wrong and that you should have gotten back some money, then you can get double damages and attorneys fees pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 5321.16.
It would be very helpful if you did something to document the condition of the apartment when you left it (such as taking pictures or a video, having done a move out sheet inspection with the landlord, or if you can bring in witnesses who helped you move who can testify to what the place looked like.
If this occurred in the central Ohio area, and you need to speak with an attorney, you can email me by clicking on my name above.
