Our 1st years lease was up in February 2008. We are now being asked on April 5th to sign another lease. We stated to the landlord we really did not want to sign another lease and would prefer going from month to month because of the possiblilty of buying a house later this year. We stated that would create problems being locked in to a contract and purchasing a house. Well that didn't go over to well. She totally changed her attitude to bad. She started to bring up how she asked me 8 months ago to trim the hedges in front of house. She brought up that even though she verbally gave me the OK to paint the living room and take the falling down wallpaper off the bathroom walls and repaint it that I did not provide her with a written notice so she would have it for documentation purposes. She also stated where we had our lcd tv on wall that I did not provide her with documentation for that. I told her that since then the tv was taken down and all holes have been repaired. You cannot even tell there were holes there. I use to do drywall for a living so I have experiene doing that type of work.
Basically all this came out yesterday after simply telling her we did not want to sign a one year lease. My question is this....if we continue on a month to month how often will she be allowed to increase rent on us? We do not want her increasing the rent on use every other month.
